Burn those calories during this holiday season

During this holiday season there is so much temptation to eat dessert and sweets. Holiday parties take place nearly every day. With all the calories you consume, exercises do not have to be something you dread or procrastinate.

They should also not take too much time, particularly if you are busy.

In the beginning, it may seem like you cannot maintain this routine, but once you begin, exercises will become a part of your daily life.

I want to share five simple exercises you can do daily to help burn all the calories you consume during this season.

 

1. Chair dips

Use a sturdy chair like a dining room chair.
Start by sitting on the edge of a chair, with both hands next to your hips. Slide your bottom off the edge and bend elbows to 90 degrees. Be sure to keep your back close to the chair, and then push back up. Do 10 to 12 repetitions.

 

2. Squats

With your feet slightly apart, start with small squats and work up to a full squat.

Stay in one position.

 

3. Planks

Rest on your elbows, forearms and toes.

Hold on as long as possible. Repeat several times.

Once you can do this, mix it up by raising one arm or leg, and holding the position. Hold your body in a low push up position, rather than resting on forearms.

4. Jumping on the spot

Jumping on the spot helps promote lymphatic drainage, supports the liver, is good for strengthening bones, helps with digestion and improves endurance.

 

5. Stretching

Taking time to focus on flexibility will make you feel great. Stretching is an important part of fitness. It can improve your range of motion, increase circulation, and calm your mind.

Stand with your feet together and your arms straight over your head.

Clasp your hands together with your fingers interlaced and extended.

Inhale as you reach upward.
Breathe out as you bend your upper body to the right. Stretch as far right as you can go.

Take five slow breaths. Slowly return to the center.

Repeat on the left side.

If you do each exercise for about five to six minutes, you’ll find you’ve burned all the calories from the cakes and pudding you’ve consumed.
